More Canadians have been travelling to Las Vegas after some casinos in the desert city announced a currency parity program between the Canadian dollar and the U.S. dollar.
The Circa Resort & Casino, the D Las Vegas, and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino launched the program at the end of January to attract more Canadian visitors after a major drop in bookings due to ongoing tensions between the two countries.
The three participating casinos say they counted 15,000 visitors from the Great White North in the first month of the program.
Trips by land and air to the U.S. have dipped significantly ever since U.S. President Donald Trump returned to the White House.
Locally, the four border crossings — Peace Arch, Lynden, Sumas and Pacific Highway — have recorded 36 per cent fewer British Columbians heading south in 2025 than a year before.
The at par program means that Canadian visitors receive one U.S. dollar in value for every Canadian dollar spent, despite a lower current exchange rate.
At an official currency exchange service, Canadians would only get $0.73 for each Canadian loonie.
The program only extends to venues and services offered at the three participating hotels.
Hoping to keep the momentum going, the Vegas hotels have now announced that Canadians can purchase tickets at par to shows put on by Canadian DJ and producer Excision, who is performing in Vegas on several dates next month.
