Currency supply and demand in the foreign exchange market became more balanced in June 2026. The extent to which net demand for foreign currency from economic agents was covered by net supply from individuals stood at 96.9%, compared with 91.1% in May.

The National Bank reported this development, noting that it did not intervene in the local foreign exchange market during June. The reason was a seasonal surge in foreign currency inflows.

Compared to the previous month, the net supply of foreign currency from individuals, according to the NBM, increased by 68.9 million euros (+26.0%), while net demand for foreign currency from economic agents rose by 53.7 million euros (+18.5%).

The net supply of foreign currency from the public grew ahead of the summer vacation season. The bulk of the foreign currency entering the market consists of euros and dollars. This helps the regulator keep the Moldovan currency’s exchange rate stable.

Throughout June, the leu exchange rate remained stable. Official rates fluctuated between approximately 20.13–20.16 MDL per EUR and 17.80–17.85 MDL per USD.

Since market indicators and activity are constantly adjusted based on remittances and trade volumes, access to up-to-date operational data is crucial in this regard.
