Retail sales in Spain rose by 6.5% year-on-year in September 2023, following a downwardly revised 7.1% advance in the prior month. The unemployment rate in Hungary increased to 4.1% in July-September of 2023 from 3.7% in the same period of the previous year. Retail sales in Sweden dropped 3.8% year-on-year in September 2023, accelerating from a 1.7% fall in August.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 (STOXX) fell 0.35% as media stocks slipped and oil and gas climbed. Investors read earnings reports and the state of the global economy keeps sentiment on edge.
In the bond market, the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield was up less than 4 basis points to 4.88%.
Germany’s 10-year yield was up less than 1 basis point to 2.86%.
U.K.’s 10-year yield was down 2 basis points to 4.58%.
