The US government says a new humanitarian ceasefire will take effect on Monday in the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh.
The US State Department and the governments of Azerbaijan and Armenia on Sunday issued a joint statement on the new ceasefire. It said the ceasefire will go into effect at 8 a.m. local time on Monday.
A separate statement said the foreign ministers of the two countries and representatives of the US, Russia and France will meet again in Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday for further talks toward a peaceful settlement.
Azerbaijan and Armenia failed to maintain two previous ceasefires brokered by Russia. The total number of deaths on both sides has surpassed 1,000.
Observers are focusing on whether fighting will subside and the two countries will adhere to the US-brokered ceasefire.
