AUDUBON – Jakob Kurzewitz (pictured) is an AFS foreign exchange student who will be attending Audubon High School during the 2026-2027 school year. He is the 17-year-old son of Christian and Nora Kurzewitz. Christian and Nora are both pastors. Jakob has one sister, Thekla, who is 14 years old and one brother, Matthaeus, who is 12 years old. The family lives in Stade, a city in northern Germany about 45 km west of Hamburg. The population is approximately 50,000. Jakob’s American host family is Dave, Jo, and Paxton Beane.
Jakob’s family has a history with AFS international exchange programs. His father Christian was an exchange student in Louisiana in 1993-1994, his mother was an exchange student in Costa Rica in 1999, and his aunt was an exchange student in Ecuador in 2002-2003. Jakob and his parents lived in Costa Rica for 6 months when he was 5 years old while his mother was completing a research project.
Jakob enjoys soccer, table tennis, basketball, and going to the gym. He plans to participate in the sports of football, basketball, and tennis at AHS.
