Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor’s debut web series Farzi was finally released on Amazon Prime Video on February 10, 2023. Created by Raj and DK, Farzi is a story of a painter who turned into a counterfeit currency note maker and considers himself an ‘Artist’. Farzi has been the talking point among fans ever since it was released. Courtesy of its star cast which includes Shahid Kapoor, South Star Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles, along with Raashi Khanna, Regina Cassandra, Kay Kay Menon, Kubbra Sait, and many others who have been seen in supporting roles. The hopes from Farzi were high as it has been created by none other than by the created of the much-loved The Family Man series. To be precise, Farzi is directed by Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru. Together with Suman Kumar and Sita Menon, Raj and DK wrote the story and screenplay for the movie. The dialogue for the movie was written by Raghav Dutt and Hussain Dalal. Talking about the fake currencies, Shahid Kapoor who plays the character of Sunny is turned into an ‘Artist’ and makes a Supernote which is a perfect replica of the Indian Currency note. Now, the question arises, if Sunny created the Supernote which cannot be detected by Indian machines or even hands, then how it was differentiated by the CCFART (the Police) and the government?
To understand the above-mentioned question, we need to first understand the storyline. Assuming you are reading this, you have already watched Farzi on Amazon Prime Video and have similar kinds of questions.
Farzi Storyline
Two parallel stories run at the start of Farzi. The first one is Vijay Sethupathi (Michael) trying to catch Mansoor Dalal (Kay Kay Menon) and bust his fake currency international racket. The other one being of Sunny (Shahid Kapoor) who is a great painter but is not able to earn his desired money. Sunny lives with his Nanu (Amol Palekar) who runs Kranti Patrika a newspaper daily along with the printing press, however, it is going through massive loss and lenders are demanding their money back. While the game of cat and mouse continues to take place between Michael and Mansoor, Sunny pushed by his financial condition makes a sandwich currency note (fake) with the help of his childhood friend cum brother Firoz. And, therefore, Sunny starts dealing in fake currency notes on a lower scale. At the same time, Megha (Raashi Khanna) who is a counterfeit specialist of RBI develops a machine that catches fake currency note with 99 percent of accuracy. However, Sunny’s sandwich notes cannot be caught in the machine. As the government form a Special Task Force to stop the fake currency racket and install Megha’s developed machine ‘Dhanrakshak’ in the entire India, it starts catching fake currency notes supplied by Mansoor from the Middle East to India.
While Mansoor continues to suffer a big loss due to the Dhanrakshak, he finds out Sunny AKA Artist’s sandwich note which can successfully dodge the Dhanrakshak. As a result, he kidnaps both Sunny and Firoz. Mansoor offers them a deal to make a perfect currency for him and in return, he can live the life he wants. Therefore, Sunny and Firoz make ‘supernote’ of Rs 2000 using Mansoor’s lavish equipment and printing machines which is almost same as the original Indian Rs 2000 note. Difference between Supernote and Original Indian Currency Note
In one of the scenes of the 8 episodes series, Megha (Raashi Khanna) elaborates the difference between Supernote and Original Currency Note. Megha tells the Minister (Zaakir Hussain) that Supernote and India’s original currency note are almost the same. In fact, even she can’t tell him the difference. However, there is only one way how Sunny’s Supernote can be differentiated with the Original Currency Note- that is by burning. When burning the Supernote exudes a red flame, while the original currency note exudes a normal yellow flame. Then again in another episode, Megha highlights that in the Supernote there is a mark left by the Artist (Shahid Kapoor) i.e. the initial of his name ‘S’. Notably, Shahid Kapoor’s character name is Sunny and he deliberately leaves a mark of S as a sign that he has made the Supernote.
